I accidentally unfollowed all my followers.I was testing out the unfollow all feature on my site, SocialToo.com, and just happened to hit the “delete all friends” button by mistake without realizing it. For that, I apologize. I learned something valuable from it though – out of the 23,000 people I unfollowed on accident, I (Read More)
: like the basis of your experiment. It all omes down to quality, better to good quality followers than impressive number that does not really mean anything. Thanks for sharing.
: I have always really wondered at the usefulness of using automated software to add followers and so far have preferred to just use Twitter naturally without any added software. I will probably change that at one point but when I have time to research and ensure that I am not allowing automation which can run away with itself!

Thanks for both comments. This is actually quite an old link that has been shared when I linked my Delicious account - so I've just watched it again.
The value of the size of your Twitter followers does depend on what you are using Twitter for. If you are just sharing with friends then it might seem odd to follow people you dont know. I wont go in that but plenty of people enjoy doing just that.
For those looking to be active and succesful in Social Networking then success is really down to the collecting and sharing of information and people. Why would be people do this? Ultimately to be succesful or better themselves in some way. The likelyhood when you follow someone is that a good percentage will follow you back. Therefore the bigger the follower group the more chance you have of making a difference - even if they dont follow you back you still have the opportunity to benefit from their tweets. Jesse makes these three points in the video to sum up nicely the benefits of following 15,000 people effectivly:

Twitter has a huge green community. There are green media, green companies, and green charities all active on the microblogging service, as well as a whole bunch of individual environmentalists and green bloggers. The #EcoMonday hashtag — the environmental equivalent of #FollowFriday, in which Twitter users suggest “green” (Read More)
