Official Google Blog At Google we're great supporters of experimentation because it's only by trying new things (even if some of them don't work out) that you discover better, more creative ways to operate. We've been testing different advertising formats for years (some have been more successful than others), and over the next few months, you' (Read More)

Why I Simply Cannot Vote For Barack Obama
Oct 28, 2008

Submitted by Bwana from Google Reader: This is not a political blog, however with a pretty historic election coming up, I wanted to write up my opinion at least somewhere. I’ve been a champ (for the most part) of keeping politics off of my Twitter profile. So, at least I can vent on my own blog at least once. Here I go…I will be voting for John McCain for Presid (Read More)

: I respect this guy's opinion, but he's presenting his views as independently-thought, but they're pretty much the standard talking points coming from the GOP. He lost me when he got to the "associations" point, since he's just regurgitating the GOP line, and if he really independently looked at both of these guys' associations, would find questionable on both sides. And really, Acorn, look it up, not any closer to Obama than it is to McCain (who was a keynote speaker from them in '06). These are both establishment men, who have both done admirable work for the country but have also compromised to get where they are. That's how our country works. If you really are going to make an independent decision (which probably nobody does), read the policies with a blind eye, listen to what reputable people (i.e. nobody online) says about them, look at their records. Ignore the talking points.

: @Macztar I too am voting for Bob Barr. As a member of the Libertarian party I have found the other candidates platforms leading away from a government based on the precepts of The United States constitution. Many will say that Libertarian candidates don't a have chance to get elected. The libertarian platform is the US Constitution. The future looks bleak for our republic. Libertarians will keep their integrity despite the outcome.

: This looks rather familiar. is this the same sort of approach facebook offer in conjunction with visa? Wouldn't be a surprise as there are one or two people involved in both FB and LI.. Very different audience on these sites though.

Nice play from LI offering premium members a big discount. I'd be intrigued as to what percentage of LI users pay for the service.

Forrester Report: Best And Worst Of Social Network Marketing, 2008
Jul 25, 2008

Submitted by Hyperkinesis: It’s true, most social network marketing isn’t being done effectively, why? Many brands (and their agencies) are deploying “interactive marketing” (user to website) experience rather than relying on the tools of social networks “social marketing” (member to member). As a result, many brands are wasting their time, money, an (Read More)

Jtedford,

: I've been watching this trend since leaving a traditional agency a few years ago trying to shift clients perception about advertising to vs. engaging with users in social nets. 2 years later, its still just easier to let media agencies do a "buy" and creative agencies to add some design and check the social networking box. Even so, I'm encouraged by the progressive clients (the few, the brave) of my firm who are building community and connections in soc nets via applications, games, groups, pages, and social ads. There's hope!

: True social networking is a difficult concept for companies to get their heads around. But I feel they will make the transition ultimately and I envision the smartest companies creating social networking groups within marketing departments. Social networking is time-consuming, but make and commitment to it and you will see a payoff.

Should socialmedian launch public beta next week?
Jul 23, 2008

Submitted by Jasongoldberg: Looks like we're about 7 days from being ready for public beta on socialmedian. 4200 alpha users have given us a ton of great feedback and have helped us ship more than 400 updates the past 4 months. Nervous and busy getting ready for the move from private to public. Or, should we wait for TC50?. (Read More)

: the last question at the end is over whether to just launch next week when the product is *ready* or hold the launch for a month to launch at the TechCrunch50 conference....if they want us that is which is still tbd. we're discussing.

The rules for TechCrunch50 are that you must be a invite only leading up to their event. So, that would forbid us from opening up to the public next week as we'd like.

: I am pleased with the user design of SM .I critique 24/7 the Usability of everything to be honest. SocialMedian offers information organization tools for the novice to the professional. The ability to add RSS feeds and sources is advantageous. The Rating system of sources and keywords makes your site unique. Letting a user create their own News Network coupled with the innovative "comments" sections are excellent. I have seen launches from the Press Release vantage point never from tech on up. It is your baby, I like it. Great Job!
