: Do you know something the rest of us don't? ;) In terms of numbers of users, Plurk would be next on the list, with Pownce following that. Neither matches Twitter very closely though. For a very Twitter-like experience, I'd suggest Identica.
Im more thinking about downtimes really, the unpredictable nature. As you said, it grows and grows...
For seomthing that so many people rely on for constant communication would do not harm and would be quite logical to have a common back-up in these down times. This would mean kinda agreeing within your own communities and adding each other sooner rather than later.
So its more a preventative measure, follow people now then you are more likely to be able to switch over and not loose much conversation.
Even it Twitter stalls for a few hours or an afternoon, which it did do last week, even that can cause difficulties. However, if everyone had one common back-up app, moving over would have been pretty painless.

: This is extremely helpful for those of us who work with larger organizations and want to show solid examples/case studies of big brands and their use of social media.
: interesting conclusion... Twitterfon failed with some bizarre error message the first few times I tried it so I removed it. not interested in trying again because it still looks too basic. Newest entrant Tweetsville looks to have a lot of potential.

While a great deal of the world was sitting, enthralled with the US political machinations, it appears that Twitter - the microblogging service with which many of us have a dysfunctional love-hate relationship - took the opportunity to roll out a new piece of functionality through its Japanese partners - called Twicco - and (Read More)

If you're on the internet and post your articles/designs for blogs or websites. Sooner or later the work will ripped off and/or even posted on the thieves website and claiming it as their own. (Read More)
: Nicely explained piece. The biggest thing we bloggers and/or designers need to remember is that, though we're personally attached to our work, the theft of said work, intentional or unintentional, must be handled calmly, cooly, professionally.
If you find your work on some else's site, take a walk, blow off some steam. Remember that you DO have rights and recourse. When you've cooled off, come back to your desk and follow Calvin's action list. Pursuing remedies logically is the best way to protect your work.
