I was just saying that at a gathering this past weekend, and everyone looked at me like I was crazy because, "myspace and facebook are just for kids playing around." But there's a future out there they're not seeing.

I am convinced that in the history of the Internet we will look back at Facebook as a critical inflection point / shift of paradigm. It started off with younger people but now an entire generation +/- is being trained on the social web, where news feeds and life streams are the norm, public postings are the norm vs. private, and applications are increasingly designed to interact with each other vs. on their own.

This is so true, and people who aren't seeing it are quickly going to be left behind. Don't know Twitter? Strike one on any job interview these days, whether or not its a media/tech gig--at least according to the recruiters I know.

Completely agree with all on this topic. The social web is and will continue to dictate what people think about and how they think about it and will have more influence over traditional marketing mediums. As stated an entire generation is cutting their teeth on this medium - today's bleeding edge is tomorrows walkway.
