Unlikely duo Newsweek magazine and the American Petroleum Institute will host an exclusive event for lawmakers focused on climate change and energy issues, reports Talking Points Memo.

"Climate and Energy Policy: Moving?" will feature AIP's CEO, Jack Gerard, and Newsweek columnist Howard Fineman will moderate the discussion. It isn't clear if the discussion is on or off the record.

API spent $2.1 million lobbying the federal government and the Environmental Protection Agency in the third quarter of this year, according to lobbying disclosure reports -- positioning itself as a staunch opponent of climate change legislation. The organization has been featured in both positive and critical coverage ,by Newsweek as the debate on climate change legislation intensifies.

In February 2008 the magazine and AIP joined to host a discussion entitled "Globalization Trends and Energy and the Growing Competition for Resources."
