Welcome to part one of two in a tutorial series covering the basics of Adobe Catalyst Beta 2 and Adobe Flash Builder Beta 2.
This series will cover the process of developing an Adobe AIR RSS feed reader application from start to finish. Tutorial one will walk you through importing your Photoshop design into Adobe Catalyst, defining various components (scroll bars, buttons etc), and saving your application ready for importing into Adobe Flash Builder.
The second tutorial will show you how to link the application to live RSS feeds, add additional functionality to the application using ActionScript 3 and finally how to package the project as an Adobe AIR application.
For the purposes of this tutorial I’ve prepared a Photoshop file, setting out the interface for our AIR app. Layers and effects can all remain exactly as they’re applied in Photoshop; they’ll be imported into Adobe Catalyst without problems.
