Summary

• Storrie to appear before magistrates on 16 November
• Has pledged to defend himself in 'strongest possible terms'

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has been summoned to appear before magistrates after being formally charged with tax evasion by City of London police.

The charge, which Storrie has vehemently denied, relates to allegations he cheated the public revenue during Amdy Faye's transfer from Auxerre to Portsmouth in 2003. Storrie will appear before City of Westminster magistrates on 16 November.

Storrie, who has been on bail since he was arrested almost two years ago on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting, is the first person charged in relation to the investigation into alleged corruption in football, which started in April 2007.

Storrie has insisted he will "defend the allegations in the strongest possible terms" and remains confident he will be exonerated.
