Verizon will open their stores early on Friday for the launch of the Motorola Droid, and so far, despite our fears, it looks like Verizon's done a nice job of staying out of the way of progress and not crippling the device in any way. One thing that is missing is tethering (the ability to use the phone as a modem), but according to Verizon, that should be coming in 2010. AT&T iPhone users are still waiting for the company to approve iPhone tethering, and AT&T has refused to give a solid date for when it will be implemented. Of course as with all Verizon 3G data plans, usage is quietly capped at about 5GB a month. You can expect to pay about $15 on top of the $30 data plan to tether when the feature drops sometime next year.
