Summary


Step off that ledge Oscar fans, even though Hugh Jackman has declined to return to this year’s event, the show will go on. Today we’ve learned via the LA Times that Steve Martin, a veteran host of the ceremony, and Alec Baldwin, a newcomer, will be sharing the hosting duties for the 82nd Academy Awards. Says Martin: “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”


In the Jackman news I mused that perhaps the Academy would want to revisit their past trend of sharing the hosting duties (which they’re also doing with the increased best picture noms), and now that it’s actually happened I’m finding the news makes me a bit more excited for this years ceremony than usual. The last time we saw multiple hosts was in 1986 when Chevy Chase, Paul Hogan, and Goldie Hawn shared the task. Multiple hosts were also featured in several other Academy Awards throughout the 80s, and it was actually the norm during the 70s and 50s.
