Just in case Lala’s partnership with Google isn’t doing enough to boost the music startup, the company is announcing that quite a few musicians and record labels are offering exclusive content on Lala to promote the new feature.
Under the partnership, which was revealed last week, when you search for musicians or songs on Google, the top results will link to tracks from Lala, MySpace, and other music services. Now, you wouldn’t think this kind of feature needs to be promoted — do people need to be convinced to search for their favorite bands on Google? But seeing free downloads and songs they can’t get anywhere else should convince users to click on those Lala search results.
I asked whether Lala has seen a serious spike in usage since Google turned on music search, but the Palo Alto, Calif. company said it’s too early to talk about traffic.
To give you a sense of the promotion’s size (as well as a heads up if you’re a fan of any of these musicians), here’s a list of what Lala is offering.
