New Moon Takes Over MySpace

Summary

The extensive collection of exclusive content and marketing we’ve seen on MySpace for the new Twilight movie – New Moon – seems to be exactly what the company has in mind with its new direction as an entertainment portal.

Last month, the site was first to offer up free streaming of the soundtrack to the movie, and today, they’re out with a homepage takeover ad that includes the soundtrack, videos, a link to get the iPhone app, and the ability to get your tickets now, two and a half weeks before the film arrives in theaters.

The movie is likely to be wildly successful regardless of the strong social networking push (which now includes a Twitter account as well), but MySpace’s ability to secure the highly in-demand content and the ad deal could be a glimpse of what’s to come – and a reason that loyal users might not abandon ship.
