I’m still goofing around with better ways to do comments. IntenseDebate was coolish, but the lack of people with IntenseDebate accounts limits the usefulness of the service. OpenID has a similar problem–so few people use it that it makes it nearly pointless to install.
Today I’m trying out Backtype which is a service that attempts to pull together the back channel of comments and bring them into the foreground. So, things like comments on Twitter or Friendfeed about blog posts here are brought here and added in as comments. That’s kind of cool because it surfaces some of the discussions that may have passed by undetected because they happened on other services.
