BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Baxter International said Wednesday that European Union regulators have approved its Celvapan vaccine for the H1N1, or swine, flu virus. The vaccine uses Baxter's new cell-based culturing technology, which can produce influenza vaccine within 12 weeks. Current flu vaccine technologies generally have a production run time of between four and six months. Baxter added that it will be conducting ongoing studies tracking the safety and performance of the vaccine in both adults and children. The company said initial human studies show the vaccine is safe and well-tolerated in recipients aged 18 or older.
