Twitter users are going manga kerrazy, replacing their avatars with those from FaceYourManga. If you’ve got a manga Twitter avatar you’d like to share, post a link to your Twitter account in the comments. Or, read on for further thoughts on this intriguing trend.
Twitter’s Manga Invasion
The above graph was extracted from a viral marketer’s wet dream. It shows the sudden, seemingly inexplicable rise of the terms “manga” (green line) and “faceyourmanga” (red line) on the social messaging service Twitter.
FaceYourManga, for those not familiar with this veritable Pet Rock of the Twittering classes, is a tool for creating your own manga avatar (my attempt sits atop this article, accompanied by a colorful array of carefully crafted toons).
The trip to social media domination was a short one: the buzz began on Thursday morning and peaked at 4pm Friday. But don’t go thinking this twend has Tweeted out: we simply don’t have today’s data yet. Meanwhile, traffic rankings (dare I say Alexa) indicate the buzz did indeed convert to heavy usage of the service.
........... ok - but when will this system be effecitve for me ? Twitter has not given me a real user advantage for using it day by day - thought as a typical user ..... even if i pretty much like the idea ! and connecting it to other platform is pretty important for its growth but how making twitter to a usefull tool, a tool giving me a real life benefit? which is bigger than entertaining me ?
It's all a bit of fun, Manga faces are just a fashion trend like snoods were in the eighties. I wasn't convinced at first but decided to join the fun later on: http://twitter.com/Techn0tic
I'm staying with my original avatar, I remember a person's real face better than I do a cartoon version of them. Although I must say some of you did do a really good job on making them look like you!
@Christiananderson The changing pictures is annoying because easier to ident people visually at times rather than by their names. Changing makes it harder to identify who is whom. Wish people would not do as often. (Or that twitter would allow people to have a couple of pics like LiveJournal allows.)
