Yelp has built a social media empire by becoming the top destination for finding information and reviews on local businesses and restaurants. Now Google wants in on the action in a big way.
Just moments ago, Google announced that they are adding information on businesses, restaurants, points of interest, neighborhoods, and more on separate web pages within Google Maps. The project, Place Pages for Google Maps, replaces those expanded info bubbles that used to be part of Google Maps. Yelp had better watch out.
Place Pages: There’s So Much More Detail Now
Google Maps has always had info on locations and businesses, complete with ratings, reviews, and images. However, the info was always within a bubble on Google Maps and didn’t always have important information such as hours of operations, public transit information, and quick descriptions.
