Marlon Parker from Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town South Africa has been working on something remarkable. Getting youth involved in a social program is a challenge in itself. Getting at-risk youth living on the periphery of society, youth who have little access to internet or trust in traditional media - how’s that possible? Using a combination of mobile, MXIT and youth advocates (the 10% already sold on their message who need their support) enabled Marlon’s team to touch the communities traditional media approaches would be unable to. It’s similar in spirit to Bernard Hor’s work with Summer Sands profiled here this week in using youth advocates to reach youth themselves.
