Summary

The most popular URL shortener on Twitter just teamed up with Imageshack’s Yfrog. Could this spell trouble for TwitPic?

In a blog post earlier today, Bit.ly revealed several major companies using its API (application programming interface) to share their content via the URL shortening service. They include some big companies, including Google Reader, CBS, and Typepad.

What wasn’t covered in-depth though was a major partnership between Bit.ly and Yfrog that is rolling out over the next few weeks.

Here’s what’s going to happen:

1. Bit.ly will be releasing a new media upload feature that is powered by yfrog. This means that you can not only tweet from Bit.ly, but that you can share photos and images through the URL shortener as well.

2. Yfrog will not only offer you the ability to tweet out image links with the yfrog.com URL, but with bit.ly links as well. The result is that you can now track your image links via bit.ly.
