En entrevista telefónica concedida a TheStreet.com, el magnate de la comunicación Rupert Murdoch fue preguntado, entre otras cuestiones, por redes sociales como Facebook y Twitter.


Sobre Facebook, en competencia directa con MySpace, adquirida en 2005 por el holding que preside Murdoch, News Corporation, tiene el veterano empresario una opinión muy particular:


Facebook es más un directorio. La gente acude en busca de sus parientes o amigos, para encontrarse con ellos. A MySpace va la gente a contactar con quienes tengan con ellos intereses comunes, a compartir música, ese tipo de cosas.


Quizá el magnate no intente simplificar en vano el papel de Facebook. La estadística comparativa entre esta red y MySpace muestra claramente cómo las preferencias de los usuarios se han decantado por la primera. Mientras el tráfico de Facebook en el mes de mayo de 2009 fue un 253,74% superior al de ese mismo mes en 2008, la misma medición en MySpace arroja la cifra del 5,61%, pero en números negativos.
