As we get ready to go from alpha to beta this week at socialmedian, we've been spending a lot of time getting our systems and technology ready to scale and implementing enhancements and features that make using socialmedian A LOT easier.
I speak for the entire team when I say that we're a bit nervous. Managing a private alpha is a lot different than running a public website. Thus far we've had a control group. In just a few days we'll have a live site that can grow in any number of directions.
One of the most exciting aspects of socialmedian is that it's entirely user-driven. socialmedian's users can create and join News Networks on any topic they'd like. Our users decide what topics to include and what sources to include in each news network. For the technorati out there reading this, each news network is sorta like a Techmeme meets Friendfeed meets Digg on any specific topic, but entirely user generated.
What's most encouraging as we head towards beta is that socialmedian's users continue to create all sorts of interesting News Networks on an awesome range of topics.
Our 4281 alpha users have thus far created 1098 News Networks.
It will be interesting to see what happens when we have 10,000 users, or 50,000, or 100,000.
Here are some of the most recently created News Networks on socialmedian. Read the full article
