There's a new service in town that promises (yet again) to monetize your Twitter stream - Super Chirp is a Twitter Direct-Message based system to allow big Twitterers to charge their followers money for exclusive membership to their "monetized" Twitter feed.
Already the internet is abuzz about it. Michael Arrington at TechCrunch (who I both loathe and love in equal measure) called it "a fantastic idea that at the very least may prove out the product for Twitter itself." He cites Britney Spears, who he says is missing revenue opportunities by not selling her fans Twitter updates directly. Of course, the problem with that is that Britney Spears doesn't really use Twitter. There's an account in her name set up to auto-follow people who follow her, and almost nothing has ever been posted to it. The content that is posted to her Twitter feed is posted by a ghost-writer who doesn't even claim to be her half of the time.
