I didn't realize that Facebook had passed Myspace. The graph makes it look like Facebook is smoking everyone. I also thought Twitter would have been third. My guess is that Twitter will be in the top 2 by this time next year.
@rmoore Realize that the Twitter numbers only showed those who visit the site, not those who were using API software like TweetDeck, Twhirl, etc.... If those numbers were included, it would be ranked much higher.
I just don't believe the numbers, lets face it Facebook and Twitter are by far the most popular social networks online. Some of those other sites listed I would not even classify as REAL social networks. The AOL community should not be on the list.
I’d be really interested to know what the average reach is of a Facebook user. In other words how much influence a user has - my guess is the majority have their own little circle of friends rather than a really wide audience. I guess it’s true of all network - does anybody with thousands of Twitter followers actually read any of those Twitters? Fascinating subject
Wow, talk about a hockey stick growth pattern...Facebook seems to be the very definition! I think we'll see Twitter take off in a similar vein soon enough once it gets some serious critical mass which it will considering the amount of press it gets nowadays.
I would not have thought classmates or reunion was one of the top ten social networking. I'll have to check it out. I never went on it because I thought it was more social to find people from your past verses what is happening now.
As a newbie some of these sites are new to me. I am not surprised at the rate of increase in facebook nor the decline in aol. The graph really helps with the perspective on the rate of growth, unbelievable.
Big trends are shown here for those paying attention. Amazing to think that MySpace once blew away everything else. Still a lot of traffic there, but the trend shows there's clearly a new sheriff in town.
I could have picked Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn to be in the top five, and feel that Twitter will move up in rank quickly. There are two there that I was not familiar. Social networking is in its infancy and not sure any of us understand the power that it will provide in marketing long term.
I thought twitter would be up higher. Interesting that MySpace is lowering - too many kids, I guess. Are the baby boomers taking over social networking??
