Summary
Are you not sleeping well at night? Sleep is critical for optimal health as it is one of the four pillars of health.

Long-term health depends on the regeneration that occurs during deep sleep. Growth hormone, or the “anti-aging” hormone, is secreted during sleep, which stimulates tissue regeneration, liver cleansing, muscle building, break down of fat stores and normalization of blood sugar. I'm glad to see you include lavender oil and valerian and lemon balm too. I have experience using wonderful therapeutic quality essential oils for sleep for pain, for soothing emotions and rambunctious kids...for helping bipolar people get off drugs. Wonderful oils!

Great post that underscores the central wholesome role of sleep in our 360wellness framework and its impact on so many other aspects of our life. In our over stimulated and over saturated environment our sleep/waking cycles are disturbed. This report explains how we can get it back on track.

Great post, my father used to have trouble sleeping, he was not OK, he seemed deteriorated, with eating problems and mood changes, and that's only some of the thing that a bad night can produce.

Thanks for the info!

Luckily I sleep like a baby every night - 8-10 hours.

I will put some of these tips into practice. I don't suffer from insomnia often, but enough that this article is a great help.

Re: #2: I read in bed all the time. For me,it's like a sleeping pill. No matter how much I want to read, the bed is not the place to do it. I can only use the bed for sleeping and _ _ _... maybe it's psychological?

My wife has sleep issues, and many of the things you listed have worked for her. Most of us take it for granted, but it is a major issue for some.

You are so right in #3 - your sleeping environment should be quiet, cool and comfortable. Living here in the tropics if it wasn't for aircon, I'd get no sleep.

My teenage boys have sleep issues - I will try some of these ideas on them too.

Cheers and thanks for sharing this information.

Excellent list of better sleeping tips. Also finish all work related stuff at least an hour before going to bed - you don't want things churning around in your mind when trying to sleep.

We all sleep pretty well most of the time... unless the house gets too hot. Trying to sleep in an uncomfortable environment will keep you up all night!

Excellent list. Important to emphasize that most of us in modern "developed nations" don't get nearly enough sleep, to the point where we fail to recognize that we're chronically deprived. Most adults need at least 8 hours. If you think you're fine on less, you're probably kidding yourself.

Personally I can't sleep if I don't do some form of regular intense exercise. Thanks for the tips.

...and sleep is also interesting because we dream. In the dream world we feel exactly the same like in the real world. For me its like a second reality.

#21. Don't let a dog who barks at every sound sleep in the same room. Now your list is complete :-)
I love my dog but I'm ready to kill him.
This gave me a lot of good ideas about how to get more restful sleep. Thanks.

You nailed that one, we don't have a health care system it only goes into action if you are sick and it is the overall system that feeds it with all of the pharmaceuticals.

Sensible advice. All it takes is getting off normal sleep patterns to recognize the truth of this article.

What a great article. Thank goodness I sleep like a baby just about every single night. There has been times when I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. When then does happen I try to get as comfortable as possible and try to stop thoughts running through my mind. At least my body is still and relaxed trying to get in that deep sleep mode again. My sister has slept with a noise machine for many, many years now. She can't sleep anywhere without having that constant noise in the background. I need it completely quite. How about you?

Some excellent tips. I find that if I don't drink caffeine after 3pm it helps a lot. And if I need it, I find that melatonin really helps me. If I can get to sleep and sleep for one hour, then I am home safe. It's usually that first part that runs away at times!

Great tips! Although I have not had trouble sleeping since having my daughter. I guess that might fall under exercising regularly.

Really great article. I've printed that one off so I can recommend some of those points to my insomniac patients.

Thanks,
