Take the time to learn the keyboard shortcuts for your feed reader. I can get through the material more quickly when I use a few keys to navigate through the content. In my case, NetNewsWire lets you use arrow keys, the space bar and other keys to navigate through the content, mark items as read andunread, open in a browser, collapse and expand folders, and more. Navigating the menu items to find these functions can sometimes take more time than you realize.

Read the article and afterwards check out BlogBridge. This Java based feed reader has all the features described in the article and much more (post to blog(s), monitor & post to Twitter, filter all feeds by multiple keywords to a new 'smart feed', etc.). The professional infojunkie versions blogbridge.com offers are worth every penny/cent/€cent.
