This week in our fortnightly review of iPhone Apps for Kids we are focusing onĀ letters, words and stories. The capacity for the iPhone and touchscreen technology to support children develop literacy and numeracy is powerful. More and more children are instinctively developingĀ the skills to use this technology, it is up to developers to provide them with applications and programs that meet their educational needs. This may seem easy, but it isn't. And, for every good app we are seeing there are five that have not put much thought or energy into considering how this will work for children.
One of the best iPhone apps I've seen my kids engage with so far has been Wordex.
Wordex Matthew Tippet Fantastic word game to teach young children spelling and develop language skills. 3-6 years $1.00
This word game is simple. The design is simple. The pictures bright and colorful. The letters large and clear. Wordex is exactly what you want for young children out of an iPhone app for kids. I want to see more applications like this one.
