"Look at thought leaders like Chris Brogan or Seth Godin. One of the reasons for their amazing reputations is the fact that they are an overwhelmingly positive force in a negative world. People crave those who inspire them, and both of these individuals do that with stars. The right kind of leaders are never negative."
The challenge of our age is finding and following leaders of integrity who are great stewards of social media, who create wealth for others without spamming us with their own sales pitches.
An important point for all to understand - and good comments! I can recommend a good book called 'Radically Transparent - Monitoring and Managing Reputations Online', by Andy Beal & Dr. Judy Strauss (with a forward by Robert Scoble), for those that are looking for more information on the topic. (Available on Amazon).
great points brought up in the article. reminds me that influence is the chief currency today and reputation should be guarded and managed in that direction.
Profound life lessons. The kind responsible parents should find a way of introducing in chunks over time to their kids. In a time and age when everything we say and do is recorded for eternity it would be shortsighted to say and do expedient things to please the whims of the moment, which we with hindsight may not be proud of.
Great article, keeping a good reputation is key on the Internet, it used to be said that all publicity was good, even the bad stuff.
This may have been true years ago, however as you point out in your article the web doesn’t forget and when that negative stuff rears its head again it potentially exposes you to a whole new audience.
I thought this was a thoughtful and useful article - I know that many people check me out on line before they do business with me so for me my online reputation is very important. As with many things connected to the internet the etiquette is still trying to catch up with the technology - the same applies with reputation building.
No question your reputation is the single most important asset you have for successfully doing business. I am always careful in everything I do, because in our digital world news (good and bad) travels fast.
Good advice. Don't shoot your mouth off unless your brains are loaded. For me, the challenge is telling people what they NEED to hear, in a way that they WANT to hear it.
