Summary
One of the toughest things for someone writing about tech trends for a general audience is keeping up with what's new, but also having some perspective about how the average person uses technology.

Twitter is just one product that's evolved from the explosion of sites classified as Web 2.0, which allow people to easily create as well as consume content. Building these sites is relatively easy -- all you need is an idea, a programmer or two who know what they're doing, maybe a designer to make things look good and some cash for hardware and band width.

The problem is that many of these sites are being built by geeks, for geeks. Their creators don't really have a feel for what the masses want or need. As a result, many of these sites flare up, flounder, then fade away. Read the full article

True - but there's also the phenomenon that sometimes users adapt the site to their own needs - Twitter is a great example of that.
