Fresh off of yesterday’s report that traffic at Facebook and MySpace may be declining in the US, Multiply, the social network that prides itself on being about real world relationships, is showing some fairly impressive growth statistics. The site recently passed the 9 million registered user mark, and both monthly unique visitors and page views have doubled year-over-year (based on March’s data).
Asked what the growth can be attributed to, Multiply’s CEO Peter Pezaris is quick to point out how his site is capitalizing on the current perceived flaws of the market leaders:
“Today’s internet user is more interested than ever in using a product that protects privacy, and provides more relevant information from people they know in the real world. People who are experiencing social networking fatigue (superpoke? vampire biting?) are looking for something more meaningful, and Multiply has from its inception focused on that important segment.”
Fair enough – Multiply’s users skew older, with the median age at 25 and the most active users typically in their 30s accord
