Summary
ResearchGATE (www.researchgate.net), the leading social network for scientists, is paving the way to Web 3.0: The international academic platform has implemented intelligent search
functions unequalled in the online world until now. The results of its new search engine, called ReFind, are not merely based on keywords, but selected in an “intelligent” way based on semantic, contextual correlations.
This cutting-edge tool enables researchers to find groups, papers, fellow researchers and
everything else within and outside of ResearchGATE without having to read through dozens of irrelevant search results. The "similar abstract search"-functionality allows users to upload entire abstracts and find thematically related papers within the platform and in external databases such as PubMed.
Moreover, individual users as well as groups of potential interest to the researcher are
automatically suggested to the member on his/her personal ResearchGATE interface via the
"semantic relations"-functionality. This feature combines data from profiles such as research
projects or personal skills in highly complicated algorithms. This is far more complex than the
“people you might know” functions in common social networks.
With no effort, researchers get to know colleagues worldwide that are working on similar subjects. Furthermore, scientists connected via ResearchGATE are now able to cooperate seamlessly using all of the platform?s applications. Read the full article
