Apple have made a lot of progress in the year and a half that the iPhone has been in existence. And the fact that they’ve rolled out just about every feature via software updates for every phone owner is a real breath of fresh air. The lack of updates was one thing that really made me dislike the various BlackBerry devices I had over the years…
Of the 12 issues I noted in my last post, three have been fixed:
That darn headphone jack - The iPhone 3G no longer has a recessed jack. Good move!
Calendar integration - OS 2.0 handles meeting invites and over the air calendar syncing pretty well, though I’ve had some issues keeping mine up to date. And the colored calendars are needlessly complicated.
Hidden contacts - The addition of a Contacts app is a welcome change.
What’s Still Wrong

Fair comments. I think the major one is push alerts to the phone, and I would add the option to have your location pushed to an Apple Service (on a set frequency - 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour ) from which you could allow other iphone applications could then query. This would ensure that the GPS is available for other applications, but is not being activated by multiple applications - thus slowing down the device and draining the battery.... Maybe in Steve's keynote. This would give the iphone the same functionality as Android but preserve the battery and ensure smooth running apps and no task manager...
Nice, interesting idea to add to the push support that (presumably some day) Apple will deliver. I think it's being delayed due to concerns about battery life, personally. Look what push mail does to the battery!
I really don't like the touchscreen keyboard. It makes for clumsy, slow texting. I've always been VERY happy with a physical qwerty keypad, like some other smartphones, most notibly, Blackberry.
One of the onlt things that really appeal me abot the iPhone is the apps, but BB has some pretty cool ones too, not as many, but still a lot.
