I'll also note that it was VERY hard to choose just 5. Many others would have also received my votes if I had more than 5 votes to give, but part of the fun of it is limiting it to 5 people. We'll select the top 50 vote winners to get the special recognition.
@jasongoldberg, I certainly appreciate the nod, but there are definitely folks far more worthy than I, I try to contribute when I can, and greatly enjoy the intelligent, and civil (well, most of the time) discussion that the community generates.
@greghollingsworth Greg deserves special recognition for his ability to keep a conversation going! I mean that in a good way. We need more of that around here! There should be a separate vote for commenter's. I think it just might be more important than the story's themselves.
@solacetech nice idea. we've put some thought to enabling people to view most effective newsmakers by topic (who are responsible for the most downstream activities after their clips). Enabling you to sort your own newsmakers by number of their stories you have also clipped would be cool. @nishith @sunil
@thomaspower I'm equally impressed by your humility! But I'm not buying it! Can I post more names, everyone else did. Originally, I posted 12, but Jason pointed out the rules, which I "couldn't see", and I had to make some cuts that I felt were unfair. Hopefully everyone got the email before they were deleted!
Honestly, from what I can see, the best of social|median are all here in this comment thread. A lot of names are showing up in everybody's lists, some not so often, but everyone here cares enough about the community to tell others about their contributions.
For me, it's an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as so many influential users.
@jasongoldberg, great idea on the commenters/ators, I'm curious if you have any measurement of how often someone is commenting--I would comment much more, but my job cuts into my net-time.
@jasongoldberg michaelfidler catches my eye quite a bit as a watcher and reader and for stirring people up and making them look into themselve Thomas the power
I'm sorry, I just can't choose 5...I just can't. There are so many to narrow it down. Thanks to everyone who nominated me, though. That's flattering! :)
@diordna Thanks, I wanted to include you and many others, but I had to narrow it to five, and now I have to do it again for the comments! This ones a lot easier.
Top Commentator's are(a little drum roll please) These are numbered and in order! 1)@greghollingsworth (The Heavyweight of comments:See the attached links below as evidence!) 2)@louisgray (fastest reply's also) 3)@thePuck (loves a good debate and says,"I am a far better clown than teacher, and I would assert that a fool is still a philosopher...of a kind :p) Well Said! 4)@homosuperior loves a good debate(see below) 5)@thekookfringecom (claims he's only here because his brother is a friend of @jasongoldberg) BTW, is your brother here?
There's none better than Louis at getting right to the point. He is usually right and tends not to mince words(it amazes me that with all he has going on that he still has the time to comment). But he does, and like I said he's usually very quick at getting back to you)!
On the other hand we have my other four picks. Here two examples of their work. I hope you have a little reading time on your hands. A little word of warning, should you clip an article that these guys are involved in, expect a lot of notices in your email!
@michaelfidler to paraphrase the Bard of Avon (whoever he truly was): since brevity is the soul of wit, and tediousness the typing and the ranting, I will be brief. Thank you for the honor you bestow upon me.
@michaelfidler Truth be told, I don't know if my brother's on here. I ended up here via Facebook. My brother was a 'friend' of Jason Goldbergs, Jason added me as his friend (saw he was connected to my brother so I accepted) and then I started to see Jason's status updates and one of them made my conservative hairs stand on end so I had to jump into the debate... I think it was the Biden interview where the reporter asked him if Obama's was a Marxist...
My top five? Only three...
1. @greghollingsworth - even keeled respects others points of view, even when he doens't agree. Logically based arguments and posts. 2. @homosuperior - I'm not sure its humanly possible for two individuals to be furter apart on a couple of pet issues than me and this guy, that said, I respect his opinions, I just don't agree with them, and he's relentless as a horse fly in July... 3. @jasongoldberg - Thanks for allowing me to be Hannity in the sea of Colmes here...
I only have three, but that Biden debate with @homosuperior was pretty epic...
@thekookfringecom Thanks, kook! I think I'm rather lazy actually and also I often start writing comments and think, hmmm, this really doesn't add anything interesting to the conversation. The one trait others should emulate. This is my favorite news-sharing site, because I can ignore the social media circle jerk and concentrate on the politics. I thought it was really cool and unexpected that @jasongoldberg included me in the newsmaker sidebar for the election, especially my being a rather snarky expat. Having said ALL that off-topic stuff, more or less, I like reading @ThePuck, @greghollingsworth, and @michaelfidler. @louisgray is the only social media blogger I find readable or interesting as a writer, but I get plenty of him on his blog.
This is great people. I wish I could spend more time but the purpose of S|M for me is to save time!!, Glad to know all these Newsmakers and commenter! Hip Hip Hurray!
