The Obama campaign has been building, tweaking and tinkering with its technology and organizational infrastructure since it kicked off in February 07, and today has most sophisticated organizing apparatus of any presidential campaign in history. Obama is the first to successfully integrate technology with a revamped model of political organization.
I have to say, the Obama mafia have done an excellent job of reigning in younger voters especially. He's plastered all over the web, so much so that it's perhaps a classic case of brainwashing - making it so that if you don't for vote for BO like your friends, you'll be an outcast. McCain on the other hand, has singularly failed to embrace available technology. Por chap, he was doing so well until Palin came along - and boy - did technology embrace her!
Babyboomers have to keep up with the latest channels of communication--Mccain is too old--Palin's choice was not by the party but by mccain--so whom to blame??--poor or simpleton??
First I am an Obama supporter and will vote for him, but what i see here is very concerning including: * The absolute disregard for the privacy interests of all the people in these databases. * The lack of security and open access to these databases * The collection of information provided under the auspices of what is likely perceived as a private conversations.
I can envision numerous scenarios where the information in these databases could be used for nefarious purposes by ill intentioned extremist persons.
When you sponsor a political party I do not think you’re signing up for: * Being approached at your home * Being called on phone at home * Being badgered to contribute more money * Having your information sold to third parties * Having your political affiliation and comments you make be accessible to any volunteer * Getting sent junk mail
This generation did not live through some of the largest abuses of information and the branding of persons that we have seen numerous times in the past. Hiring some technocrats in web 2.0 has clearly helped and that’s a good thing because the alternative candidate I think is clearly a very scary proposition. But the Obama campaign has already by virtue of its singular focus and cavalier treatment of information placed many people at risk.
errm - "secret" weapons? Everything of these 3 is freely, publically available to everyone (plus "psychology" has been used in politics for aeons). Of course, the Obama campaign has counted more on new media than others before, but I believe that's more a failure of the predecessors rather than a secret weapon of Obama.
