Since socialmedian’s public launch in July of this year, the social news site has very rapidly improved on its initial offering. socialmedian continues to offer powerful news filtering tools, but over the summer, CEO Jason Goldberg and his team have added major new features on nearly a weekly basis.
Most recently, socialmedian announced a Facebook application that allows Facebook users to access most of socialmedian’s functionality without leaving Facebook.
socialmedian also recently introduced new features dubbed The Mood and Replize. The Mood in similar to FriendFeed functionality that lets socialmedian users rate stories according to their “likes” and “dislikes.” Replize mimics Twitter functionality that allows socialmedian users to interact with each other using @username short codes.
All of this product innovation is paying off for socialmedian. The social news site has nearly doubled visits in each of the last two months. Goldberg says he isn’t focused on growing unique visitors. Instead, Goldberg wants his users coming back. “The only number that matters
@christiananderson @michaelfidler Now by saying it "just might be the best review yet!", you are now opening the floodgates for people to get all competitive over who can do the best review for Social Median. :0)
I am tempted myself... :)
But it's really great stuff,Mr @michaelfidler introduced me to it and from the first time I logged on I could see that this was a great site, something much needed.
@imjustcreative I thought @michaelfidler wrote I was the best reviewer ever. d'oh! With the pace of innovation, which has been the hallmark of socialmedian, I worried they might lose focus. I'm glad to have been wrong. socialmedian continues to sprint in the right direction and teach the big boys a thing or two about news consumption.
@christiananderson, great post, esp. pointing out the amazing evolution S|M. I cannot believe how quickly features have been added and feedback has been answered with increased usability. How @jasongoldberg and the S|M team does this is a mystery/miracle. I find myself, traditionally an omnivore trying to get the experience of as many sites as possible, wanting to just collapse it all in S|M and never leave (like FriendFeed when we could have tabs--oh, hey, that would be a cool feature...)
Well then.... Do i get a SM t-shirt labeled "founder"? ;-) That was a good write up. You've been getting some good press as of late. well earned! @jasongoldberg
It takes a bit to get your head round but I'm beginning to see some incredible potential in this - particularly for a content creator -it's just a question of making the communication channels talk!
