: I didn't realize that Facebook had passed Myspace. The graph makes it look like Facebook is smoking everyone. I also thought Twitter would have been third. My guess is that Twitter will be in the top 2 by this time next year.
: I thought twitter would be up higher. Interesting that MySpace is lowering - too many kids, I guess. Are the baby boomers taking over social networking??

Pro-SkittlesSkittles recent radical makeover to their web presence is a bold stroke of marketing brilliance, a total surrender of their brand to the power of social networking, crowd-sourcing and the freedom of information. And the thing is, it may be foolproof - as much trouble and flak as the Skittles brand might have brou (Read More)
: I think it is a brilliant move. This gives a human voice to the brand that consumers will appreciate. After all consumers eat the candy why not learn and interact directly with the people that spend the money on their product?
The boost in media attention is also brilliant. I think I'll go buy some Skittles now... I forgot that I like them.
: Whether you like Skittles or not it's absolutely clear that this brilliant marketing move has prompted thousands, if not millions of people to let their feelings be known. Maybe that's just called - jumping on the bandwagon!
: In viral marketing you can never know whats effective and what's not, until you do it. The risk is huge, but when you make the right move, reward can be outstanding

Google and the other search engines want 3 things from you:
1) They want relevant, authority articles …
2) … with relevant, authority titles …
3) … posted on a relevant, authority website.
Let’s take these in reverse order. Today, we’ll talk about that relevant, authority website. (Read More)
: Self-promotion is similar to spreading the word by any other means but with an artistic approach. If the artistic part were taken out of the equation advertising content would look more like barging rather than self-promotion. There are many steps involved in this process. The first step is to collect and create useful content relating to the topic, which is a not an easy job.
great place to start as you point out? ... choose a category and subcategory in which to publish your articles, and then focus on that sub-category. If you follow this formula, you’ll not only draw traffic from visitors to EzineArticles.com, but your articles will be ranked on the first page of Google results for years, and you’ll get organic search traffic from Google & the other search engines.
: Also comment on other people's blogs that are related to your own. Look especially for bloggers who use the Wordpress plugins KeywordLuv and DoFollow, which let you create backlinks with anchor text to any page on your own site.

This tool gives you a free SEO analysis of your website in 20 areas of popularity, relevancy and site structure. It takes about 20 seconds for the application to determine your score, from 0 to 100. The full analysis is a non-technical explanation of how to improve your score. (Read More)
: This tool worked pretty well as soon as I realized that it didn't want me to input the full URL. I had to eliminate the 'http://' part before it would run. It would be nice to put a little example text on the page or, even better, reprogram it so it doesn't care whether or not the 'http://' is included. The current situation where you get an error message with no explanation is disconcerting.
In any case, providing this seems like an effective marketing tactic. I may just have to copy it!
: @rickdavis I guess it depends on what you were found for :) Many companies I work with can't even come up in the search results with their own names, but some do. You can try to change the content on your page, along with your meta data and see if that helps you over time. It works for me: do a search for "better marketing performance" :)
: that is a really nice tool, think it highlighted a few problems with my site that i am aware of, in particular the structure would benefit with a more silod approach ...

Is Satan a viral marketing genius?
A while back on my old blog I’d made a post that created quite a lot of controversy for the people reading it. The post was about how God might play a role in the lives of marketers. More to the point, “Would God view devious and dishonest online marketing practices as sin, an (Read More)

: The controversy may come from an overreaction to religious analogy in the context of business. But it is fair to invoke and question the values underlying certain business practices. Unscrupulous business practices are a reflection of the absence of morality in value system of the practitioner. It is fair for consumers and business associates alike to consider whom they are doing with. The deep financial crisis in which we find ourselves shows how rude our awakening can be if we put blind faith in people just because they put on the uniform of reputable institutions.
: Interesting post and yes I also think you have guts to post something like this since it could instantly draw a variety of responses. But then again, variety can be good, as long as civility remains.
I too have fallen pray to the bad side on occasion, regretfully there are some highly effective (viral?) marketing ploys based more on smoke and mirrors than truth in advertising. One example (especially thinking back too 2004) just think of many political campaigns
: That is why every internet marketer and visitor need to be careful when making a decision to buy into what is a convincing sales letter and marketing ploy.

People crave those who inspire them, and both of these individuals do that with stars. The right kind of leaders are never negative."

: This info has got to be 9crt gold ... thanks for sharing Overall, Facebook’s demographics reveal some interesting trends which bear mentioning. On average, the ratio of male to female Facebook users is .85, meaning that there are significantly more Female facebook users than male ones. This plays out with general trends in social networking gender demographics, which tend to show a predominantly female base of users.
Looking deeper and viewing Facebook’s gender demographics on a national basis, though, we find some stark differences which break down along less obvious lines. The three most “feminine” countries, Russia, Poland, and Lithuania, are all European countries, each with a ratio of almost 2 female Facebook users for every male facebook user. In fact, the majority of large European countries are neutral or leaning feminine, with the notable exception of Turkey, which shows a strong male demographic.
For Western English speaking countries the ratio of males to females was very similar with about 40-45% male and 55-60% female.
