: Can't say that this surprises me in the least. This generation doesn't view technology the same way our generation does, because they have always had it.
I remember a time before cel phones, the internet and the iPod. For god's sake, I know 8 year old's that have iPods and 10 year old's with cel phones. I didn't have a cel phone until I was in college and still have never bought an iPod.
As consumers of tech, our generation sees social media in a very different light than teenagers. They use it to keep up with friends, we use it to seek out information, find conversations and network, it's a tool for us. For them, it's an appendage, something everyone has, and has always had, so it's not special or groundbreaking.
Add to that the fact that most parents can't afford to buy their kid a Blackberry/iPhone (let alone the monthly data plan that goes with it) and you get a lot of kids that either call/text and that's about it. No one should be shocked by this.
Remember, digital natives are exactly that, native, and the natives are never nearly as excited by the things that entice tourists.
