My, how the tables have changed. Earlier this week, we learned that Apple had suddenly begun to pull third party iPhone applications for Google Voice, citing the unconvincing rationale that they “duplicated” some of the iPhone’s functionality. We then broke the news that Apple had also rejected Google’s own official Googl (Read More)

Today, I found yet another reason why I prefer discussing tech topics on FriendFeed over another popular social site, Twitter. FriendFeed’s search is a big reason why you should move your Twitter conversations there. The above example shows the value in retaining search data. Twitter search only goes back a few days (I do (Read More)

I mentioned on Tuesday in response to Twitter’s new changes that it could be impossible for anyone to see your suggestions on #followfriday if you started your Tweets with an “@”. Based on your responses, my assumption was part right, and part wrong. #followfriday is not going away (as long as Twitter users don’t want it (Read More)
: I never understood the point of #followfriday as it seemed like a bunch of ids randomly sent out. Your blog Louis makes a lot more sense and should help us make meaningful connections. Thanks for the advice.
: The #followfriday inputs have at least two points of recommendations that make them more specific than random - a person you're following has made the introduction. Your twitter community will increase in value, if you follow some of those introduced and if you remove people whose tweets you don't care for.

Twitter has a wealth of data - it’s a global thought-stream on every topic imaginable. But how do we convert that raw data into insights, trends and actionable information? How can we find the signal in all that noise?Fortunately, there are several tools out there that can help analyze Twitter data, understand user behavi (Read More)

Home secretary rules out state-run 'super-database' but firms would store details of calls, emails, texts and web browsingThe home secretary, Jacqui Smith, today ruled out building a single state "super-database" to track everybody's use of email, internet, text messages and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twi (Read More)
: This would be a better model for America as well. The problem with the warrantless wholesale wiretapping in the USA is that there are too many politicians in the American system who represent their funders rather than their constituents - often whose interests are mutually exclusive. They cannot be trusted with such power, as has been proven over the last eight years. Not that The corporations can be trusted any more than the politicians, but at least the corporations are more controllable through laws. Politicians in America don't seem too concerned over little annoyances like laws. There is just no accountability.

Yesterday I wrote about the Lotus 1-2-3 of twitters, but it may not be obvious why there will be more than one network of networks -- so let me explain. 1. Twitter is growing fast. 2. Its use as a medium for news has become apparent. I've been saying that for a long time. It's both the front room and back room for news. How (Read More)

Have you ever ended a day with your energy ebbing then looked over all the check-marks on the day’s task list but still don’t feel like much was accomplished?
I know I have and when thinking back over the day’s events, I often feel confused about where all the time was spent. (Read More)
: I agree. Twitter, Facebook and social media activities, including email are incredibly time consuming.
I decided sometime ago - task firsts. I don't turn on my email, twitter or facebook until other tasks are done first.
Then I allocate 1hr only max - less if possible to answering emails, then attend to social media. Social Media according to experts is the 'now' genre that we should be paying attention to, but like everything - I consider that to be the 'cream' of a business, the backbone are your real tasks!
: Hi great topic and well spotted ... and the main reason I built a website to cover this debate of over working when sitting in-front of your computer ... but instead of relaxing I do a routine of 5, 10, or 15 minute simple health exercises that keep me and my joints in flow and my mind and body flexible ... I no sitting for long periods at our computers can not be good for our bodies in the long haul ... how about you? ... Relax for 15 to 30 minutes after each block of time is completed by taking a real break from your workspace (so it does not mean check email or Twitter!). You’ll end up being refreshed and ready for the next project task.
