I used to be the biggest user of Google Reader. At one point the Google Reader team told me I shared more items than anyone else. But lately it's a rare month I've checked into it and Twitter is in the process of adding a new feature -- lists -- that is getting me off of Google Reader altogether. Why?Several reasons:1. What if Twitter only had 100 users? How many would be chatty, how many lazy? Based on the data from previous surveys – InsideTwitter and the PearAnalytics study – the InformationIsBeautiful blog has constructed these gorgeous graphics showing the Twitter community represented as 100 people. While beautiful, the data is b (Read More)

Early adopters are a critical component to any startup environment. This particular demographic is unlike any that a company will face in the future. It’s the early adopters who are first to interact with a company’s initial product or service.   It’s the early adopters who represent a company’s first fan or first critic (Read More)

For several years now, I have profited from using a “Master Task List.” This is a way to group your work-related activities so that you do what you were hired to do and keep from getting side-tracked by “trivial pursuits.” It is something you should develop before you start throwing together a to-do list.I first learned thi (Read More)

If you’ve tuned your TV to CNN at all over the past week, you’ve probably witnessed a sweeping love affair. I’m not even kidding when I say that I think CNN’s anchors have used the word “Twitter” more than they have uttered “CNN” during that time. And while some people hate that, I think it’s great, because the service is p (Read More)

Today has been dominated by news and excitement surrounding Google Wave, Google’s new real-time communication platform that will launch to the public later this year. In fact, there’s been so much buzz that you might just not have enough time to read the thousands of articles being released on Google’s biggest product laun (Read More)
: Google Wave seems to be somewhat like a "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau" as we would call it in Germany. A highly complex system for real-time communication which is capable of replacing IM, email, wikis etc. This is definitely a project which is not easy to beat by any other vendor with less will to spend millions of millions into infrastructure and development for a single project.

Twitter has tweaked their sidebar to now refer to Replies as “Mentions,” and adjusted the functionality so that rather than showing only those tweets that begin with your username, they’ll show all tweets that mention it.While this functionality could already easily be accomplished using Twitter search, or through a client (Read More)
: What sidebar? Is there a Twitter sidebar with the regular web interface? I looked and looked at the little tiny letters at the bottom of my Twitter "Home" to see if I missed something...but alas, no sidebar that I could see. If there really is one, I'd love to know, although I'd be worried about incipient Alzheimer's, having missed such a thing for so long!

In this morning's New York Times, there's an interesting article about the new trend of "ghost Twittering." If you don't know what that means, it's when someone, usually a celebrity, politician, or a "personal brand" of some sort, pays another person or persons to update their Twitter account on their behalf. This "ghost wr (Read More)
: It is a surprise and a disappointing one at that. Employing someone else to post tweets in your stead is the ultimate in hubris. Do they really think their time is so valuable they cannot take a few moments to connect with their fans? I do not follow people like this - really, I could not care less about them or their lives - but, if they have time to get plastered at endless parties, they certainly can spare a few minutes to send a text message.
Authenticity *is* the key. Twitter is not the latest fad and treating it as such may be more damaging than trendy.
: How can I get this job!! How easy! I think I would be good at it: "Having mojitos with Cathy and we are discussing her date with Biff...did they kiss?!!", "buying a case of mineral water...im so thirsty", "Looking thru a catalog", etc...

AUSTIN, Texas--By now, the story of how Twitter exploded onto the scene at the 2007 South by Southwest festival is legend in technology circles. But here at SXSW 2009, the notion of the perfect match among community, service, and event seems flipped on its head. Many people are discovering that a monumental oversaturation o (Read More)
: "This year, however, because of the conference's impressive growth and Twitter's broader mainstream appeal, there are so many people sending tweets with the "#sxsw" tag that it has become almost impossible to find the same value as in the past. I did a search for the tag on Saturday afternoon and found that there had been 392 tweets with the term in just the previous ten minutes. That number mushroomed to more than 1,500 in the previous hour."
: Twitter model: yes there are many marketers amassing followings. I am not sure how they are going to use this multiple demographic user base? Surely this ethos will render what was potentially the best social media immediate search and research app? If all the marketeers are doing is hashtaggin then maybe the new spam is the hashtag?
EAs will move to a more defined and niche adaptable service ( identi.ca?)
