We’ve seen a number of Twitter tools for scheduling future tweets, shortening URLs, and tracking click-thrus. But BrightKit (not to be confused with the location-aware app BrightKite) is the sleekest we’ve seen yet, making it worth a mention. What makes BrightKit special is its beautiful interface for managing multiple Twit (Read More)

I have been unwell, so not as feisty as usual. I didn't rise to the bait when Michael Arrington decided that Web 2.0 is dead because of some vacation Video that Dave Morin and other glitterati created on a recent trip to the Mediterranean. But then Arrington turned his back on the term years ago, even though he was one of t (Read More)

That may slow down a hair because Iceland has closed all its banks, but nothing has 'died', except paper profits in a bunch of hedge funds."

Twitter integrations have become somewhat passé recently, as just about anyone looking for social media traffic has devised a way to auto-post links to the microblogging service. But an integration being released this morning by Covestor might spark your interest, especially if you’re an active trader in the stock market.I (Read More)

Twitter is broken, but that's okay -- every time it breaks, it makes news. Every time it makes news, it squeezes out the competition and makes them look like a pale imitation. Even sites like Plurk just can't keep pace with the Twitter surge: 12 million users and counting. (Read More)

Social media measurement is one of those topics about which everyone has an opinion, but nobody agrees on the solution. The question about how to measure the return on investment (ROI) for social media participation comes up in every workshop I deliver, as definitive, statistic-based metrics seem to be the primary way commu (Read More)

Social Media is everywhere these days. In the past 6 months, I must have signed up to dozens of social media sites, used them once or twice and then abondoned then to the box of neglected toys. The onslaught started slowly. We made friendster/MySpace/Facebook profiles, some of us started personal blogs, we got digg, del.ici (Read More)

But then again, that's what I've got Yahoo pipes for: to help me filter the noise before it ever gets to me. Don't see why one couldn't go the same route to filter, say, an unwanted Twitter follower.

It's possible that the one signal from a noisy "friend" might surpass the many signals from a guru.

Twitter is one of those services I just can’t make up my mind about. On one hand it provides a simple and quick way to get information about what’s going out there whether it be updates from friends or news from my favorite sites. On the other hand, it can get annoying when people use it for the simplest mundane types of th (Read More)

A 'play fight' in Hyde Park had been advertised on the social networking site, attracting about 300 teenagers. But the event's mood turned dark as gangs wielding knives threatened the public and even forced passing child riders off their horses."
Crazy british teens. There actually have been a lot of articles recently about how British teens are more violent than ever. Any Brits care to discuss?
