: I've always been a big believer that much of our happiness is in the mind, but I have never been convinced all of it is... Okay, I'm not putting the guy who wrote it or the scientist who claims it down, but I'm still not sure. I think my problem with it is philosophical. If a bad condition of one's life does not cause more suffering, i.e., more unhappiness, as this implies, then there is no need for charity, compassion, empathy, etc., because no matter how bad off a person's circumstances, happiness is within, so... it just becomes another right-wing excuse not to help anyone who is worse off. I don't know. I guess I'm just not 100% okay with its implications...
