For those nuts out there like us that use just about every social website there is, the upcoming version 2 of Alert Thingy’s AIR desktop application may be just what you need. The current version of the service supports Twitter, Flickr and Friendfeed. But version 2, which will be released this month, adds support for Digg, (Read More)

Socialmedian.com is a Twitter-like online community. Once on the site, you’ll be able to appreciate the interface, which reminds us of Twitter. To get started, you must first create an account with the site. This will allow you to start sharing links with those who follow you, and read the postings of those that you follow. (Read More)
: Yes, that seems to be an error on their part. You can click "share" to share stories on socialmedian on to twitter, but we do not yet have the ability for you to get socialmedian updates tweet'd to you automatically. I do send several tweets per day with popular stories and discussions on socialmedian, but that's manual not automated.
Also, I don't really get that socialmedian is a "Twitter-like" online community?
: Um, SocialMedian is in no way "Twitter-like". Completely different design, user-interface, target market, use intent, not to mention it's up every time I come by. There is, however, the equivalent of an SM fail whale: try editing one of your comments.

You probably already get social media, and see its value, and think it’s really nifty cool. But if you can’t articulate the benefits and the return on the effort, and several other little details to the folks upstairs, it’s going to be hard to get your ideas moved from “wouldn’t this be great?” to “let’s assign a project ma (Read More)

It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store," he says. "We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence.". (Read More)

One of the more significant Web 2.0 trends in business this year has been the advent of the Web-based customer community, where groups of like-minded individuals focus around a brand or a set of product and services come together and interact online. Far from the cynical marketing ploy that it can sometimes seem, customer c (Read More)

Seeing as how Web services today are becoming more and more multi-faceted and multi-functional, particularly in the social networking and social media space, it really is open to debate what is and what is not part of a specific segment of the market. It’s not ridiculous to rethink how you handle your outside priorities if you’re working multiple jobs. Many of us are resistant to the idea that we shouldn’t do everything from laundry to home repair on our own. But sometimes the best choice is paying to have one less thing to worry about, if only so we can get back to work (Read More)

This week we're busy fixing about 100 user-submitted bugs. (Gee, thanks guys!) But, we also want to make some progress on your feature requests too. So, which of the following would you like to see us to do first? 1. Auto-share your socialmedian activity onto FriendFeed. 2. Import my blog to my socialmedian page. 3. (Read More)
: Agree! we need to add person-group and person-person communications, replies, etc. working on it! polls and surveys are asked for a lot too. We have a feature up our sleeves to enable NewMakers to start and lead discussions with their readers via SMS :)
: Great Ideas, All of them. I'm still going to send a couple suggestion in an Email, only because they need a bit more thought, and will come with possible solutions. I would have already sent it, but, I was in meetings this afternoon and still have some catching up to do . Besides, I've got stories to clip. One little thing I can mention. I'm starting to feel like an orphanage for abandoned networks. I try to throw some stories in them whenever I find something relevant, but I feel like some of their owners might not be coming back. Have you had time to think about abandoned accounts. A couple I wouldn't mind taking over. I know this is low priority, and I would be disappointed to see you waste time on this right now. I read your blog and I had a feeling you might be working with a small team, but that would be an understatement. I'm am truly impressed at how much you've accomplished. Just like with Twitter, less is more. I don't remember your assistants name, but I'm sure he deserves credit also.

Everyone knows about social media sites like Digg and Reddit, but the fact is, they are incredibly hard to penetrate, and the traffic they offer is often superficial. For many bloggers, niche sites are a refreshing alternative to these behemoths, offering more targeted links and a much smaller base of competition. Read on t (Read More)
: I'm just not able to get up the urge to plurk. Twitter does the job just fine for me. Between socialmedian, Twitter, friendfeed, i'm all set. What am I missing? Then again, I never really got into myspace either.
: I would contend that, with services like hellotxt, they all can coexist. There are pieces of all that I like (i have a plurk, ff, and twitter-follow me!), and there are parts that I dont. There is no reason that there can only be one.

Twitter is one of those services I just can’t make up my mind about. On the other hand, it can get annoying when people use it for the simplest mundane types of th (Read More)
