: I think you're reading way too much into the word study. I can study a book, that in itself doesn't constitute a scientific study. They studied the data from one major online retailer. They didn't conduct an exhaustive scientific study controlling for certain variables and such. Whether this perusal of consumption data is indicative of anything is anyone's guess. But as far as guesses go, it's a pretty interesting one.
As for social agendas, well, we've all had them since Eve realized she was naked.
