Though women and men are creating blogs in roughly equal numbers, many women at the conference were becoming very Katie Couric about their belief that they are not taken as seriously as their male counterparts at, say, Daily Kos, a political blog site. Nor, they said, were they making much money, even though corporations se (Read More)
: Excellent point. Do your job. Take yourself seriously. Stop complaining. There will always be some who might bring the evaluation down to the level of male v. female...but forget about them. They're not your audience. I have yet to find a glass ceiling based on my sex. There is more opportunity than not. A generation of women (Rosie's Daughters) born during WWII smashed through the doors, ceilings and other barriers for the rest of us. They collectively hold more firsts in education, professions, entertainment, sports, government and business than any generation of women before or since. I'm not so naive to think there will never be an artificial barrier placed in your way. But it's far, far from universal. Take yourself seriously and others will too.

: @jasongoldberg Hey, who needs fancy search, I just found the first story I ever clipped on socialmedian. It's not the first one I submitted though. Apparently, it took a day to learn that trick. I'll have to pop that one up also. It's a good one! If there is an average of 10 stories per page, then I've clipped approximately 8,500 stories since I signed up. Just in case I didn't say it before, Thanks for creating this site:-)

I understand why people find it hard to see twitter as anything more than ‘fun’ and a ‘waste fo time’ - and indeed it can be both of those things (separately and together in fact!).
But Twitter can also be a great business and marketing tool. (Read More)
: I agree, Twitter is an excellent tool for networking. Perhaps it's a generational thing, Millenials and Xrs seem to be pretty adamant about having fun with our careers. We work as hard as our parents did, but we want cartoon whales and chatty friends to be a part of the daily grind.
: I am part of the re.net crowd that is adopting social media to create transparency and innovation in Real Estate. Many of the early adopters gather on Twitter....truth be told, Between Twitter and FriendFeed, this is where i get most of my industry news.
: I think Twitter can be used as a business tool. Just look at what Southwest Air, Zappos and others are doing with it. I think it's really a question of what you want to accomplish with tools like Twitter and then work it into the framework of your business.

Last night was not the kindest of schedules. I had the great opportunity to leave the house and see "The Dark Night" yesterday evening, but the film didn't start until 11:15 p.m. Allowing for previews, credits, and the two and a half hour runtime, it was 2 a.m. by the time the movie ended. Following a quick trip to Safeway, (Read More)

Is it all smoke and mirrors or is there any substance to it after all? Or are there just a bunch of hucksters out there trying to make a few bucks off naive people who want to get ahead in life? Is social media just next iteration in hucksterism and pyramid style marketing scams? Or is it something more?Greg Davies, aka (Read More)
