@jasongoldberg seriously.. Isn't this beyond funny? These things should have been pretty well tested. Or else put BETA on each of these machines.

: This in addition to the wet ballots that don't even go in the machines correctly. The failures always occur in the states where the contest is the closest and where there is historical voting problems. Not surprised at all, but from what I hear from the Campaign Manager for a Virgina State wide office, these problems are not stopping voters.

: When I voted in Fairfax we were given two options to vote - I don't know if this was because the other was not working or what. We could chose to vote on the old familiar electronic ballot or a "new" paper ballot. It seemed to me that everyone I saw was choosing the paper ballots over the electronic. Personally I found the paper ballot a bit out dated however they did scan it in. I was told the scanner recorded the vote immediately. As to the time frame and process I was pleased that I picked a time when I could walk in and out within 5 minutes. My other half got in line at 5:45 this morning and waited about 45 minutes to vote.

techPresident – What Happens to the Obama Network After the Election? (1)
Nov 04, 2008

Submitted by Leolaporte: The potential impact on our democracy is both thrilling and troubling. On the thrilling side is the potential for a long standing increase in the engagement of people in politics-- most notably, among the youngest voters, who have always been the least engaged. On the troubling side is the potential disintermediation of our (Read More)

: Obama has successfully combined community organizing and social networking technology. It would take a steep learning curve for the GOP to catch up to the new playing level.

Election Results According To Twitter
Nov 04, 2008

Mashable! Is there anything Twitter can’t do? Apparently, you can even use it to guesstimate the result of US presidential elections in certain states. This little chart below, although not graphically beautiful, is the result of some algorithms put together by Setfive Consulting. They’re parsing tweets to see if users ha (Read More)

: Twitter is not there yet. I'd rather see something like a soldier voter map than a Twitter map.

: This reminds me of "Dewey defeats Truman". The US twitter community is significantly left-leaning, which automatically leads to bad polling data. I love twitter, but using it to predict political issues is silly, the majority of the twitter community are almost guaranteed to be democrats or at least left-leaning independents.
