Aug 31, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com Why You Should Homebrew: Great Taste, Less SpendingGizmodo.com posted this great intro to homebrewing and winemaking.  Definitely worth checking out if you curious about what it takes to get started.  surprisingly, they take the economic angle as a reason to brew your own.  Aside from my recent experiments in brewing on the (Read More)

Come on in, the Beer’s Fine!
Aug 19, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com Just saw Starkenberger Brewery’s “Beer Pool” featured on the Travel Channel (yes, its a slow night here).  Apparently, they’ve converted their old open fermentation vats into “pools” and charge €135 for a two hour soak.  Bet it feels great until you climb out and it gets sticky!Cheers,-DFrom “Extreme pools”:Beer PoolTarrenz (Read More)

Homebrewing for only 48¢ a Pint!
Aug 16, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com As a home brewer, your focus is on quality over efficiency and we seldom brew beer for less than we can buy it.  However, this weekends brew project may be the exception to the rule. While tipping back a few killer pints of my brother-in-law’s Kolsch, we decided to place a bulk order with northerbrewer.com to [...]. (Read More)

GrillandBarrel.com Hops were ripe for pickin and the homebrew supply at a critical low, so it was time to brew! Beer in a Box?
Jul 30, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com Saw this article on Gizmodo earlier.  If you don’t have the chops to brew your own beer or build your own kegerator and you don’t mind drinking what my Father-in-Law refers to as “weasel-piss”, then this might just be what you’re looking for.Get excited, America! Because as of this fall, you’ll be able to consume cheap, [.. (Read More)

What Beer Should Obama Serve his Guests?
Jul 29, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com If your like me, you love solving the world’s problems over a few beers.  The president seems to be giving that a shot as well by inviting Henry Louis Gates Jr. (the Harvard professor who’s arrest has sparked our latest racial controversy) along with his arresting officer, Sgt. James Crowley, to the White House for [...]. (Read More)

Easy Pickin Hops
Jul 19, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com This years hops are doing great.  I plan to harvest some this week for a batch of homebrew.  The best part about growing them up to a deck is that you can harvest them more like berries, picking cones as they are ready rather than timing the harvest for an entire hop bine. Cheers, -D. (Read More)

Can Conditioned Fat Tire? I call B.S!
Jul 07, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com While preparing to hosts some friends for dinner over the holiday weekend, I stumbled onto New Belgium Brewery’s new “can conditioned” Fat Tire Ale. I’m quite fond of Fat Tire and New Belgium Brewery’s contributions to craft beer and the home brewing community. Heck, they’ve even made some of their yeasts available to [.. (Read More)

Put a Brewery in your Pocket!
Jun 28, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com I’m a big fan of homebrewing software like ProMash and my favorite, HomeBrew Formulator for the Mac.  I’ve been excited about the possibility of a homebrew app for the iPhone, but had ben greatly disapointed in the early attempts.  That is until I discovered BrewPal by David Parker.  This app actually rivals desktop counter (Read More)

Brewing with BioGas
Jun 25, 2009

GrillandBarrel.com     Here’s a cool concept.  A-B is powering its Houston brewery with gas from a nearby landfill.   I Don’t think I can scale this down for homebrewing yet, but I do have some gassy boys in the house : ) Anheuser-Busch Houston brewery uses biogas – St. Louis Business Journal:. GrillandBarrel.com While out buying supplies for our Father’s day BBQ (check out the cool fathers day card I got) I treated myself to a four pack of Sam Adams Imperial White.
