@jmalmberg I'm presuming that what you're describing as a "stretch" is the effect it would have on Obama's views of the British. I think you're right that it would have little effect on Obama's perceptions - aside from perhaps strengthening his view on the worth of torture - but it may have some effect on the perception of others, particularly the British. Should he have any need to counter the British world view or decisions, this might come up as a perceived "reason" for his actions. It's interesting, but then I'm a genealogist - which colors MY perceptions!
