: "When we have our board meetings, the central topic is the revenue trajectory, not how happy our users are." - Not something you want to be hearing from the CEO
: Yeah Westergren seems like he's throwing the towel...I enjoyed the shameless plug: "I was on the bus when I get this message on my Treo," Westergren said. "I thought, 'We're dead.' "...maybe Palm threw him a few dollars for that.
: It's just that Westergren has the wrong end of the corporate funder stick - the one with the 'dirt' on it. The media does NOT want the Web radio to succeed because (sorry to explain the obvious) they perceive it as competition. They are happy to invest in a leading company just to have it fail with a bang so that others are scared to tread the path.
Is this end of story? NO. Westergren is hog tied along with his buddies but there's room for someone who is free from agenda laden moneylenders. The copyright police could not give squat for musicians. They were invented and set up BY the music biz FOR the biz. As usual musicians/artists are last in line for the cash. There is a way around this for a team that is committed to DO it. There have been others and there will be more - innovators who are not in the grip of greedy competitive moneylenders but can see further beyond than the length of their interest rates.
