Telegraph site taking some pleasure in pointing this shabbiness out ('Not even The Sun would go so low...' etc.) Nevertheless, it is a tad ott shrewd. But, then again, isn't anything fair game in a news agency's quest to attract traffic to its news content? And if this is a searched term, why not make it your own? Is it gho (Read More)
: Senator John McCain (or rather his team) recently posted an ad http://tinyurl.com/6ro4gd to undermine Obama's leadership credibility as being more leadership celebrity (hey, it worked for Tony Blair). Paris Hilton (or rather her team) respond to her inclusion in the celeb-bashing with her own (not entirely appalling) policy ad. Sends chills...!

This week we're busy fixing about 100 user-submitted bugs. (Gee, thanks guys!) But, we also want to make some progress on your feature requests too. So, which of the following would you like to see us to do first? 1. Auto-share your socialmedian activity onto FriendFeed. 2. Import my blog to my socialmedian page. 3. (Read More)
: Agree! we need to add person-group and person-person communications, replies, etc. working on it! polls and surveys are asked for a lot too. We have a feature up our sleeves to enable NewMakers to start and lead discussions with their readers via SMS :)
: Great Ideas, All of them. I'm still going to send a couple suggestion in an Email, only because they need a bit more thought, and will come with possible solutions. I would have already sent it, but, I was in meetings this afternoon and still have some catching up to do . Besides, I've got stories to clip. One little thing I can mention. I'm starting to feel like an orphanage for abandoned networks. I try to throw some stories in them whenever I find something relevant, but I feel like some of their owners might not be coming back. Have you had time to think about abandoned accounts. A couple I wouldn't mind taking over. I know this is low priority, and I would be disappointed to see you waste time on this right now. I read your blog and I had a feeling you might be working with a small team, but that would be an understatement. I'm am truly impressed at how much you've accomplished. Just like with Twitter, less is more. I don't remember your assistants name, but I'm sure he deserves credit also.

Anthropologist Alan Macfarlane of Cambridge University has an intriguing theory about the origins of the Industrial Revolution. You can hear about it in the course of these lectures on population growth. But what does that have to do with tea?Macfarlane notes that one of the big puzzles for modern demographers is why the po (Read More)
: I heard about this a while back (maybe being in UK we dwell on these things more...); it makes some sense, although could be synchronicity as much as fact. Another factor the tea-drinking brought was, not only that people could survive/avoid stomach ailments through the boiling of water, but the very 'healthy' properties of tea itself allowed for a fitter workforce - ie you could cram more people into factories in close proximities with lesser risk of one worker's cold/flu (potentially fatal!) spreading across the whole workforce. Tea upped the worker's resistance to infections, if not their resistance to exploitation...! Tea - the capitalist beverage.

I'm testing out socialmedian by posting this story. I'm also hoping that socialmedian does not fall into the category of products I discuss in this post. (Read More)
Of course, we too hope that socialmedian does not fall into the category of products you discussed.
Here are a few reasons we think not.
1. We have built socialmedian over the course of 2008 with the direct help and input of thousands of people from around the world who have participated in our alpha. It's not a product looking for an audience rather an audience-built product.
2. We have chosen not to demo at Demo (asked but we turned down because there is no point in us paying $18K to demo socialmedian at this point), nor at TC50 (discussed with Mike but we both agree that socialmedian with 4300 alpha users is further along than stealth startup). We are working with TC on a different sort of presence by socialmedian at TC50. Stay tuned.
3. We're solving a real problem here at socialmedian: The noise factor. All these web 2.0 apps have turned the volume way up. We're helping people filter down the noise to personal interests. Which we think may be a web 3.0 beginning.
: Heh - I love Rafe. He is our generation's John C. Dvorak. Rafe, what age did Dvorak transition from being a krumudgin to being a cranky old man? "Get off my Web 2.0 you darn kids!!!"
